Avon-by-the-Sea Lifeguards

Photo Archives

Spike Fowler, Lifeguard Captain , lifeguarded on Avon-by-the-Sea beaches from 1964 to 1975.  Captain Fowler worked for 2 years, 1976 and 1977 as lifeguard in Belmar, and returned to Avon in 1977 where he completed his tenure in 1984.  During this time, operations, equipment and communications were significantly upgraded and services were expanded to the public by opening additional bathing areas.  Some of his alumni continue to this day guarding and administrating Avon's beaches.
